Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho jokes Harry Winks was ‘too honest’ about fluke goal and should’ve lied to win Puskas Award

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho was astounded Harry Winks owned up to his fluke goal in the 4-0 Europa League victory over Ludogorets on Thursday night.
Winks somehow managed to score from no less than 56 yards against the Bulgarians, seemingly spotting goalkeeper Plamen Iliev off his line before executing an inch-perfect effort via the crossbar.

But when asked about it, the England international admitted it was just a bad pass.
“I’d love to sit here and say that I did, but I’ve got to be honest and say no,” Winks told BT Sport.
“I saw Gaz [Gareth Bale] run in. I’ll take it at the end of the day. It has been a while [since I last scored] but I am happy with the way the team played.”
Upon closer inspection, Winks can be seen looking for the run of Bale and clearly has no eyes for goal, but Mourinho insists that’s arbitrary.

And there are no prizes for guessing what the Tottenham manager would’ve done if he was in the same situation as Winks.
“He is too honest! I am not happy with him!” Mourinho joked.
“With a goal like that you have to say you meant it, but a good kid. He is honest.
He added: “Winks was honest and he told in some flash interview that he wanted to play a diagonal ball to Bale.

“If it was me, I would have said I did mean it and won the Puskas Award.”
Winks was one of several second-string Spurs players to impress on Thursday night as Carlos Vinicius opened his account for the club.
The striker on loan from Benfica scored twice, the second of which was set up brilliantly by Dele Alli, and Lucas Moura completed the rout after Winks’ fortuitous strike.
