Thiago Silva a ‘big doubt’ for Chelsea’s trip to Sheffield United after veteran defender suffers injury during defeat of Tottenahm

Thomas Tuchel believes Thiago Silva could miss Chelsea’s Premier League encounter with Sheffield United on Sunday having seen the veteran defender limp off in the defeat of Tottenham.
The former Paris Saint-Germain captain has been a revelation for the Blues since arriving in west London on a free transfer last summer.

However, new boss Tuchel will be sweating on the fitness of the 36-year-old after he pulled up with with appeared to be a hamstring injury in the first half of Thursday’s London derby,
Silva displayed tremendous athleticism and skill to intercept a through ball intended for the dangerous Heung-min Son, leaping into the air to divert the ball away.
But the veteran centre-half lay on the sodden turf in clear discomfort after making the clearance and soon gestured to the bench he was unable to continue.
Tuchel had no choice but to make an enforced change, with Andreas Christensen brought on to replace the Brazilian as he hobbled down the tunnel.
There has still been no confirmation on the extent of the injury, with Tuchel admitting Silva returning to action in time for Sunday’s trip to Sheffield United is unlikely.
“It will be very tight for Sunday, only two days recovery,” the Blues boss said after the match.
“It is too early to give a diagnosis because I saw him very briefly with a big strap around his muscle.

“We will have to wait until Friday so we can confirm it but I think for Sunday he is a big doubt.”
Silva’s departure was the only real negative for Chelsea on a night in which they downed their London rivals 1-0.
Jorginho scored the all-important winning goal from the penalty spot after Eric Dier brought down Timo Werner, with the Blues also impressive defensively as they restricted Spurs to only two shots on target.
The win moved Chelsea up to sixth in the Premier League ahead of Sunday’s trip to Bramall Lane, with Tuchel knowing he can guide the Blues to within one point of the top four if results go Chelsea’s way this week.
