Luis Suarez outscoring Lionel Messi as Atletico Madrid end 2020 top of La Liga and former Liverpool striker continues to prove Barcelona wrong

Luis Suarez’s eighth goal of the season ensured Atletico Madrid will end 2020 top of LaLiga after a 1-0 victory over Getafe on Wednesday night.
In doing so Suarez has now overtaken his close friend and former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi in the goalscoring charts this season.

The pair enjoyed huge success at the Catalan giants together, winning four LaLiga championships, four Copa del Reys, a Champions League title and two Supercopa de Espana’s.
However, they were separated after six years as club teammates when Suarez, 33, was told he was surplus to requirements at Barcelona under new manager Ronaldo Koeman.
The former Liverpool striker was allowed to leave on a free and joined Atletico – much to the dismay of Messi.
Suarez has proved to be a stunning acquisition for Diego Simeone’s men.
He has eight goals in 11 games and is averaging a goal every 94 minutes he is on the pitch.
That is superior to every other player in LaLiga, including his great friend Messi, who has eight goals in 14 games this season at an average of a goal every 174 minutes.
His form has helped put Atletico in command in the title race.
They are two points clear of Real Madrid and have played two games less than their city rivals.
Suarez’s former club, Barcelona, meanwhile are down in sixth, ten points behind Atletico having played a game more.

Messi recently revealed that he still has a Whatsapp group with ex-Barca companions Suarez and Neymar – the trio of forwards were dubbed MSN at the Camp Nou.
Responding to comments from the PSG star that he was desperate to play alongside him again, the Argentina legend told Spanish TV station La Sexta: “Neymar should be asked why he said we were going to play together.
“We have a WhatsApp group with him and Luis Suarez.”

Messi and Suarez have been heavily linked with a reunion at David Beckham’s Inter Miami in the future.
However, Atletico are unlikely to want to lose Suarez anytime soon given his fine form.
