Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says ‘cold feet’ might have caused Alisson’s mistakes following Manchester City defeat

Jurgen Klopp has suggested that ‘cold feet’ may have caused Alisson’s blunders following Liverpool’s 4-1 humbling at the hands of Manchester City at Anfield
The Reds’ Premier League title defence appears to have ended at the feet of their usually reliable goalkeeper as two awful errors by the stopper gifted Manchester City a 4-1 victory at Anfield.

With the match evenly-poised at 1-1 with 17 minutes remaining the Brazil international’s errant passing presented the leaders with two goals – including Raheem Sterling’s first at Anfield since leaving in 2015.
And Klopp was puzzled that Alisson had made those uncharacteristic mistakes, suggesting the 28-year-old might have made the errors due to having ‘cold feet’.
He told Sky Sports: “We made two massive mistakes, that is clear. They used them and 3-1 down in a game like this, when you are that long level, it is tough to take.
“And then Phil Foden with a genius situation where he scored a great goal. The performance was good and at a high level.
“We didn’t give him a lot of options. The second one he just mishit the ball.

“There is not a real explanation. Maybe he had cold feet? It sounds funny but it could be. Maybe he could have kicked it in the stand. But Ali saved our life so many times.”
Phil Foden was once again superb for Man City and he capped off their brilliant display with a thunderous effort to make it 4-1 late on.
However, Pep Guardiola insisted the 20-year-old can still do better following the match.
Guardiola told Sky Sports: “He is a guy who keeps the ball so well, who is so aggressive but he is so young.

“Still he doesn’t understand in some positions what he has to do. In the first half he was not in the right position that he had to be, but we work on these issues. When he plays wide, it is more easy for him, but he will learn.
“After that the action for the second goal and the fourth goal, we know what a huge talent he is but still young. Hopefully he can understand and improve because in the first half he was not in the position we needed and that is why we suffer in some moments to have control.”
