Gina Carano: Women’s MMA pioneer, who fought Cris Cyborg, fired from The Mandalorian for ‘abhorrent’ social media posts

Lucasfilm announced they ‘have no plans’ to work with former MMA fighter Gina Carano in the future following her ‘abhorrent and unacceptable’ social media posts.
Carano played bounty hunter Cara Dune in the hit Disney+ series The Mandalorian but will not reprise her role.

In a post on Instagram, she compared the treatment of Republicans in America to that of Jewish people in Nazi Germany.
She wrote: “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbours … even by children … Because history is edited, most people today don’t realise that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbours hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views.”
Carano also previously shared conspiracy theories relating to the 2020 U.S. Presidential election.

In a statement, Lucasfilm said: “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
Carano was once a major player in the women’s MMA world even fighting Cris Cyborg for the inaugural Strikeforce Women’s Featherwight title in 2009.
She lost that fight and subsequently retired from the sport with a 7-1 record and pursued a career in acting.
The 38-year-old has appeared in such films as Haywire, Fast & Furious 6 and Deadpool.
