Edinson Cavani there to ensure Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford become the future of Man United’s attack, Wes Brown explains

Edinson Cavani is merely a mentor for Manchester United’s young front line and not the long-term solution to the club’s attack.
The Uruguay international inspired United to a superb comeback victory over Southampton on Sunday afternoon, with two goals and an assist after coming off the bench at half-time.

The 33-year-old’s positional awareness and runs in the box added a lethal potency to United’s front line – something Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has craved throughout his two-year reign – and Wes Brown explained this will only help Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood.
“Martial is still a young lad and Cavani’s come in to help – he’s not long term solution to Man United,” the former United defender told talkSPORT.com.
“We know he’s a top class player but he’s come into the squad, not started many games and come on as a substitute here and there.
Martial, Rashford and Greenwood are the future of United, Brown believes
“On the weekend, he produced the goods with him getting the two goals, and it just shows the sort of character he is.
“If something’s not happening right he will come on and try and make it right. We know the capabilities he has and it will only help Martial, Rashford and Greenwood get better.
“He does possess the positioning of a striker that the other three haven’t got to yet where’s he’s always in the box making the right runs.”

Brown also said United may need to be on the hunt for a younger no.9 in the summer, insisting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to maintain a good standard of competition in his squad.
When asked if another striker is needed, he said: “Eventually, yes, but at the moment he’s doing the job.
“We have three young strikers and the experience he shows, sometimes if you’re scoring goals it doesn’t matter how old you are.
“If he can keep that going he’ll start more games.
“Every season you always need new people in your squad to try and improve it. You need competition and the more competition, the more they work and fight harder.”
