David de Gea has been ‘average’ for 18 months, talkSPORT told, as Manchester United goalkeeper makes errors against Everton

Manchester United star David de Gea has been ‘average’ for the past 18 months, according to Tony Cascarino.
The Red Devils goalkeeper was at fault for two Everton goals in Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Old Trafford.

At 2-0 up, De Gea parried a cross into the path of Abdoulaye Doucoure as the Toffees midfielder halved the deficit shortly after the break.
After Scott McTominay put United back in charge following James Rodriguez’s equaliser, Everton salvaged a draw when De Gea failed to throw himself at Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who brought his side level in injury-time.
Former Chelsea striker Cascarino claims De Gea was not brave enough to prevent Calvert-Lewin’s leveller.
He told talkSPORT: “De Gea for the first goal he’s got to do better. Third goal, you’ve got a licence as a goalkeeper.
“Sometimes you can be reckless, you can come out and charge, you’ll get protected.

“That’s what happened with [Jordan] Pickford when [Virgil] van Dijk got injured. You can spread yourself and throw yourself.
“De Gea took the option of actually being quite safe and just making the minimal amount of effort to spread his body and make it difficult.”
Since the start of last season, only Jordan Pickford (6) and Martin Dubravka (5) have made more errors leading to goals in the Premier League than De Gea (4).
And Cascarino believes the Spaniard has not been good enough during that time.

He said: “Look, United are going to be ruing that 3-3 draw because they were so comfortable for periods of the game.
“De Gea, as much as we keep going back, you’re paid a hell of a lot of money at a big football club, you do not survive playing averagely.
“And De Gea has been average for 18 months.”
