Daniel Dubois fractured his eye socket in his defeat to Joe Joyce on Saturday night, and he’ll see a specialist over suspected nerve damage.
Joyce moved closer to a world title opportunity in 2021 by stopping his British counterpart in the tenth round at London’s Church House.

After three postponements this year due to the coronavirus pandemic the pair finally squared off in the capital, with Dubois’s British title, Joyce’s Commonwealth crown and the vacant European belt at stake.
Dubois was taken to hospital following his loss with a horrific eye injury clearly visible, and his promoter Frank Warren confirmed the fighter suffered a fractured eye socket with Joyce’s last hit catching a nerve.
“He has a fractured orbital socket,” said Warren. “The last punch he took caught a nerve and it shot through him.
“He could not focus and see and that was that. He would have had to be pulled out in the next round anyway. It is a horrible injury he got.”

Dubois is set to see a specialist on Monday over feared nerve damage, with talkSPORT’s Jim White reporting the news on Sunday afternoon.
“Following defeat to @JoeJoyceBoxing, been told @DynamiteDubois spent night in hospital – fractured eye socket, suspected nerve damage and he’ll attend specialist Monday,” wrote Jim on Twitter.

Dubois was criticised for ‘quitting’ the fight when Joyce’s left struck his eye in the tenth, with ‘Dynamite’ dropping to his knee and being counted out by the referee.
Carl Frampton, the former two-weight world champion, was ringside for BT Sport and made the accusation, before David Haye also criticised Dubois.
“I think that we all like Dubois,” said Frampton. “He’s a likeable guy. But if it is someone we didn’t like, we would say he quit there.

Haye added: “I had him winning on the card, up until round six. He needed to relax.
“I was very unhappy with the way that he took a knee. He took a shot to the eye, which is obviously painful, and I never like seeing a fighter take a knee.
“I’m sure Carl is the same – I would rather get knocked sparked out.”
