Chelsea and Liverpool handed huge transfer boost as Manchester United ‘unlikely’ to sign Dayot Upamecano, plus Sergio Ramos update

Manchester United are unlikely to make a summer move for Chelsea and Liverpool transfer target Dayot Upamecano, it has been reported.
The Red Devils have been linked with the French star, currently at RB Leipzig, but journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed Old Trafford isn’t set to be his landing spot before next season.

Upamecano, 22, has been on the radar of a number of top clubs thanks to his excellent performances in the Bundesliga and the Champions League, although a poor showing against United in Europe did see his stock fall slightly.
Man United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does seem set to move for a centre-back come the end of the season with Victor Lindelof not always the most reliable and Eric Bailly unable to stay fit to prove his credentials.
Long-term asset Phil Jones, 28, hasn’t played a single match all season, and Axel Tuanzebe’s form has fluctuated when he’s been called upon too.
But Romano is led to believe Upamecano isn’t likely to be the player they pick to join the club, leaving Chelsea, Liverpool, or Bayern Munich to swoop in.

Manchester United have never been in advanced talks to sign Upamecano – always been appreciated but ‘unlikely’. He’s the main target for Bayern Münich prepared to pay the release clause, Chelsea and Liverpool are still in the race. Also PSG interest now cooled down #mufc

The defender has a £38million release clause at the end of the campaign and it’s believed Bundesliga rivals Bayern are happy to do business at that price.
As well as the news on Upamecano, Romano also delivered an update on the possibility of Real Madrid hero Sergio Ramos joining the club, but it doesn’t look like a positive one for Man United either.
The Spain superstar, 35, has seemingly rejected Real’s offers of a new two-year deal and could potentially leave the club on a free transfer in 2021.
Romano, though, says United have not contacted the player so far and are waiting to make a decision on their summer wishlist.
Paris Saint-Germain could potentially rival United for his signature too.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has also played down links to Upamecano and Erling Haaland as a sign of respect to RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, and his own players.

“I can understand the interest of every fan and supporter to talk about these subjects,” Tuchel replied when asked about recent reports. “But now is February.

“There is a long way to go. I will not talk about other players publicly where they are under contract. This is the respect we show.

“We think about our central defenders and strikers first.”
